Keeping you safe

10 August 2020

We know starting your university life can seem daunting at times and never more so than during the crazy time we find ourselves in!

We want to reassure you (and your parents!) that here at Derwent Students we take your safety very seriously.

Here’s all the things we’re putting in place to help keep you safe – when you move into one of our accommodation sites you become part of the Derwent family and like all families try to do, we care about and respect each other and so long as we all do our bit you’ll have a great stay with us and university experience!

Here’s what we’ll be doing…

  1. We’ll be staggering key collection times to reduce the number arriving at any one time over the check in period. Please remember to book your moving in slot as soon as you can.
  2. All common areas and high touchpoints will be cleaned thoroughly on a regular basis.
  3. There will be hand sanitiser stations at key locations in all sites – please remember to use them when you enter/leave the building.
  4. Clear signage will be in place to help you maintain social distancing as well as to remind you to wash your hands regularly.
  5. All student bedrooms will be cleaned to the highest standards prior to your arrival following the latest government guidelines for non-NHS settings. Once cleaned they will be locked down until you arrive.
  6. All our staff have trained on COVID-19 controls
  7. We will encourage social distancing and ask that you report any maintenance issues via our app, by email or telephone.
  8. Other enquiries, please email reception in the first instance, of course if you need to speak to someone face to face, we will arrange this.
  9. Should you think you have contracted COVID-19 please don’t worry or panic, we have self-isolation support available, the onsite team will explain what you and your flatmates will need to do and what support we will  give you. As soon as you feel unwell please contact reception and let them know. Please stay in your room until they contact you unless you are feeling breathless and are struggling to breathe in that case  please call 999. You should also book a COVID-19 test here
  10. Each site has someone you can talk to openly about your well-being, any worries or concerns you have. They will be able to signpost you to further help if you need it.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to your new home for what we are sure will be an exciting year for you. If you have any concerns ahead of your arrival, please call the site you have booked to stay in – all the site contact numbers can be found here.
