Check out our top picks for planned events not to miss across Derwent Students accommodation!

Hopefully you’re all settled into your new home for the year and are enjoying University so far!

Despite freshers’ week being a distant memory (possibly for the best) and studies now in full swing, we still have some great events based at our accommodation to get you through the winter months.

Our dedication on-site teams have a variety of events running throughout the year ranging from weekly coffee mornings to Halloween parties and all are free for our lovely residents to attend to help you unwind and meet other people living at your accommodation.

So what, where and when are these fantastic events I hear you cry? Well, simply scroll down to find out what’s coming soon at an accommodation near you!

Raleigh Park and Madison Gardens – Nottingham


As a Raleigh Park or Madison Gardens’ resident, you can expect plenty of events throughout the year. We work closely with the University of Nottingham Students Union meaning Raleigh Park has its own JCR committee who host a huge variety of events all year round.

Between now and Christmas Raleigh Park has the following on offer and there is something for everyone!

  • Free brunch - First come first served! Advertising Hall Committee Nominations. 5th & 11th Oct, 11am – 1pm
  • Curry and 999 Night - Free curry, crime prevention and fire safety advice from Emergency Services. 12th Oct, 6-8pm
  • Raleigh Park Bake Off - Homemade cakes judged by special guests. Prize: hamper of baking goodies! 17th Oct, 2-4pm
  • Dr Bike - Free bicycle maintenance and second hand bikes to buy. 18th Oct, 3-6pm
  • Nurses' Pampering and Relaxation - Free pizza, pampering, cake and goodies for our nurses and midwives. 25th Oct, 6-8pm
  • Halloween Party - Free jacket potatoes, free face painting, best dressed competition. 31st Oct, 6-8pm
  • Focus Group – A chance to have your say! £10 voucher for every student who attends. 15th Nov, time TBC
  • Raleigh Park Winter Wonderland - Live reindeer and Christmas Light Switch On. Free crepes! 30th Nov, 4-6pm

Brookside – Derby

If you’re one of the lucky people who live at Brookside, expect free weekly treats in the form of “Tea and Toast Tuesday” and “Fresh Fruit Friday”. Just swing by the site office to collect your tasty freebie!

You can also expect a fantastic Halloween Party on Tuesday 31st October with free food and drinks, trick or treat games and a “best dressed” competition for a chance to win vouchers!

Hyndland House – Glasgow

If you live at our lovely Scotland property, Hyndland House, there are lots of cultural celebrations, parties and tournaments planned for you! You can also look forward to their impromptu coffee mornings, free hot chocolates and “grab and go” breakfast mornings. Just keep your eye out on the Hyndland House Facebook and Twitter pages and when passing by the reception to ensure you don’t miss out!

Other on-site events planned for the coming months include:

  • Diwali celebrations - Indian snacks, tea light (fake!) candles, Indian music. Thursday 19th Oct
  • Pumpkin carving competition – Best carved pumpkin wins a prize! Monday 23rd- 31st Oct
  • St. Andrews day - Scottish theme, snacks, drinks and a screening of Braveheart (how could we not?) Monday 30th Oct
  • Table tennis tournament – Planned for a date in November. Watch this space!
  • International food night – Food from around the world! Date in December TBC
  • Elf movie night – Christmas screening in the Common Room. Date in December TBC
  • Christmas craft workshop – For those last minute Christmas gift ideas! Date in December TBC
