Things to do in Egham
15 February 2021
Take a break from your studies to check out all the great things to do and see in Egham.
Egham is a place that is not short of history or things to do. From its spectacular University building to the lush parks of Runnymede, it offers something for everyone. And if you want even more fun-filled activities, you are only a short train journey away from the centre of London.
Where to begin, well let’s start with the history. If you’ve already given ‘Egham’ a search on Google, then you’ll probably know that the Magna Carta was sealed here in 1512, you can even visit the exact place where it all happened. To the south of Egham lies a small place called Virginia Water, which consists of well-kept gardens and parks. The first Ryder Cup was played on these grounds, and it is also home to the spectacular but mysterious totem pole which was actually gifted to Queen Elizabeth from the Canadian people.
So, if you’re not one for the historical stuff and you’d rather seek adrenalin fuelled thrills then why not check out Thorpe Park, a theme park on the outskirts of Egham. It’s got some wild rollercoasters and some of its themed attractions include those of The Walking Dead and SAW. If you still want to go to a theme park but want it to be a little more relaxed, then why not relive your childhood and have a trip to Legoland Windsor. Remember to keep an eye out for student deals for both parks, as they can help you save a little bit of cash for a cheeky takeaway after all the fun.
From History to Theme Parks, there is a wide variety of stuff to keep you busy in Egham when you’re not studying. However, if you’re still looking for things to do then why not check out the many organisations and societies that the University has. From Rugby to the classics, you are sure to find something where you can make new friends and memories.
