How to Make the Most Out of Your Summer
31 May 2017Here is a great list of different things to help you get the most out of your summer break.
Exams are over, the suns out and you’ve only just recovered from your post exam parties. The hard work’s been done and now it’s time to relax. For some, they have their summer itinerary fully planned out and for others, they’re left scratching their heads thinking “what now?” If the latter sounds familiar to you, we’ve put together a great list of different things you can do to make the most out of your summer.
Get a Part Time Job
Whilst it may not seem like the most exciting idea; working through summer could be time well spent. With overdrafts to clear and future plans that may need funding; working over summer could help your financial situation significantly and add good experience to your CV. There are a number of websites offering specifically short term and part time jobs such as UK Temps.
Travel
Whether it be backpacking through South East Asia or renting a cottage with friends in Cornwall; some form of holiday will help you relax and refresh – ready for next semester. Look out for bargains on websites such as STA Travel and Student Universe.
Volunteer
Helping a little, can go a long way. Look online to see the various charities in your city and find opportunities for volunteering. Alternatively, start your own fundraiser – whether that be a “feeding the homeless event” or being sponsored to cycle across the UK, the world is your oyster. Some companies will sponsor you to volunteer abroad such as Volunteerics.
Attend Festivals
There are multiple festivals across the UK every summer; with music genres from Electronic, to Indie and Hip Hop – there’s an incredible variety to choose from. Festivals also come in different shapes and sizes; from a week long festival such as Glastonbury to a single day festival like Detonate in Nottingham. The Festival Calendar shows you a list of what different festivals are on in the UK and how you can get your tickets.
Get Fit
Late nights in the library; snacking on sweets and crisps followed by late nights at the student union drinking lagers and tequila shots. Your body deserves a little TLC; and a four month break will be the perfect opportunity to get yourself back in great shape. Whether you decide to join a gym, participate in an exercise class, sign up for a running club or even try out yoga – doing some form of exercise regularly will do your body a world of good. If you’re stuck for ideas there are a number of resources online offering guidance when it comes to workouts and meal plans. Here is a 4 week plan we found on Buzzfeed.
There you have it, a few great ways to make the most out of your summer break. If you have any suggestions feel free to write on our Facebook page at Derwent Students or on Twitter.
Until then, have a great summer break and we look forward to seeing you in September!
