Over the years we have compiled a list of useful information which may help you during your stay with Derwent Living.

Where is the…?

Police Station? The nearest police station is on Hinckley Road. Come out of Waterway Gardens and go left along Western Boulevard. Follow this round and then go left along Braunstone Gate. Cross the busy main road and then Hinckley Road is straight opposite you. The police station is about 200m down on the right hand side.

Post Office? There is a post box on Mill Lane just outside the DMU Students Union building. The Post Office is off Walnut Street. Turn right out of Waterway and head in a top left direction and get onto Walnut Street. The Post Office is in a small bank of shops on the left hand side about 200m up.

City Centre/Market Place? The city centre is about 5 to 10 minutes walk away and boasts loads of main shops as well as two undercover shopping centres. There is also a pedestrianised local shopping square. Come out of Waterway, turn left and then go right to the top of Mill Lane. Head left towards the Shires Shopping Centre. About 100m on the right hand side turn right up Friar Lane. Walk along here and take the second left along Grey street. Follow this all the way to the end, past the market place and you will come along out side the Shires and the Clock Tower. This is the city centre.

University? Come out of Waterway, turn left and then right onto Mill Lane. The university city campus is there.

Cinema? Head towards the post office. At the main road turn right. Walk about 400m and on the left you will see Almond Road. On this industrial complex is the cinema centre. Leicester has a couple of out-of-town cinema complexes, notably the Warner Village on Meridian Industrial Park just off Jct 21 of the M1.

Railway station? The Leicester railway station is on London Road. The best way to get there is come out of Waterway, turn right and then go left along Jarrom Road at the top of Eastern Boulevard. At the top, go over the main road into Carlton Street. Turn right onto Regent Road. At the 5th exit, which is Regent Road turn left and the railway station is at the top of this road.

When is the market? Everyday

Where is the nearest supermarket? Head towards the post office. Follow Walnut Street and at the main road turn right. Walk about 400m and on the left you will see Almond Road. On this on the right hand side is Morrisons.

When do I have to pay my rent? Your tenancy agreement tells you when the rent is due. All payments should be made by this date. If you do not pay we will take action to redeem rent, which may lead to court action.

Dentists and doctors? All students should register with the University Medical Centre. Emergencies and any such should be taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The nearest dentist is M S Suida on Narborough Road. Turn left out of Waterway along Western Boulevard. Follow this round and then go left along Braunstone Gate. Turn left and Suida is a little bit further on Narborough Road between the first and second left.

Banks? All banks can be found in the city centre. There is also a Natwest and an HSBC next to each other on Hinckley Road near to the police station above.

Bus Stop? The nearest bus stop is on Mill Lane. They run every 15 minutes from this stop.
