Nottingham

Nottingham is positioned third in the shopping league in England, behind Birmingham and London but ahead of Manchester and Leeds.

Nottingham has excellent diversity. It boasts two large shopping centres as well as a number of smaller, upmarket shopping arcades where you can rub shoulders with the likes of Vivienne Westwood and Karen Millen.

The world’s first ever Paul Smith shop is located on Byard Lane, just off Bridlesmith Gate which, itself, is said to be one of the most expensive shopping streets in Europe. Often called “Posh Man’s Alley”, Bridlesmith Gate boasts an array of designer shops including Jack Wills, Hugo Boss, Diesel, Cruise Flannels and Ted Baker.

The Lace Market is a popular place for drinking with its many fashionable bars including Bluu, Pitcher and Piano and Brass Monkey.

Canalside is an emerging area with a nice set of bars and restaurants located on the waterfront. For those looking for a bit of comedy then 'Just the Tonic' is on every Sunday at The Approach, in the city centre. It is situated just off

The Market Square, opposite Walkabout and showcases both up and coming and established comedians.

The music scene in Nottingham is thriving with Rock City a great venue for live rock music, as well as the Trent FM Arena which holds 10,000 and regularly features top artists.

The clubbing scene is excellent too with both Ocean and Oceana proving popular with students – cheap drinks and cheesy music in abundance. The world-renowned Gatecrasher on Queen Street has re-opened after an extensive refurbishment and now promises three floors of great music for a fantastic night out.

Why not try…

Ocean – Grey Friar Gate
Cheap and cheesy, Ocean is, without doubt, the favoured nightclub of students in Nottingham, The club holds official nights for both the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University.

Oceana – Lower Parliament Street
Bit of a classier affair than Ocean. Drinks more expensive but three dance floors playing different music make it an excellent night out.

Tantra – Victoria Street
A laid back, late-licensed cocktail lounge with live music and DJs. This joint even has its own beds!

The Market Bar – Goose Gate
A late night basement bar in the heart of Nottingham’s trendy Lace Market. Particularly popular with fashion students. Dress to impress!

Rock City – Talbot Street
Alternative venue playing rock and indie music, good atmosphere and regular live bands.
