Leicester

The East Midlands has been experiencing a makeover and it seems that Leicester is no exception with many new developments having appeared over recent years.

A vibrant, creative city, Leicester is home to two universities – the University of Leicester and De Montfort University. With 12% of the population being students during term time, it makes for a lively city.

The National Space Centre is located in the city, and it’s here partly due to the University of Leicester being one of the few universities in the UK to specialise in space sciences.

Leicester is famous for its cultural diversity and the city’s annual Diwali celebrations are said to be the biggest outside of India.

Leicester is home to the Haymarket and The Shires shopping centres and to Europe’s largest covered market. Out of town there is the UK’s largest outdoor shopping centre, Fosse Park, with large stores including Gap, Next and WH Smith.

Leicester has a thriving nightlife and a huge range of places to go. Whether it’s the continental-style bars you love, or the good old pub serving real ale, there’s something for everyone.
