Community at Raleigh Park
As residents of Raleigh Park you can make a real difference to the atmosphere in the Lenton area and Nottingham City as a whole. Most local residents welcome your liveliness and creativity, and understand that you are here to enjoy yourself as well as study.
However, please understand in return that everyone has the right to enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep. Derwent Living works very closely with the police, the district councils and the local community to ensure that complaints about late night noise and unsociable behaviour are dealt with.
The police and the district council have powers to prosecute and do use them. Nottingham City Council employs Community Patrol Officers who can be called out if noise levels are found to be excessive, fixed penalty fines of £100 can be issued. The non-payment of which can result in a court appearance, and a further fine of up to £1,000.
Bringing the University into disrepute is also a disciplinary offence, and Derwent Living we will take action if a student occupied property is causing problems for local residents.
Please therefore do everything you can to be a good neighbour:
• Keep the noise down after 11.00pm (and please remember to control noise levels the rest of the time too)
• Close doors and windows when you play music
• Introduce yourself to your immediate neighbours
• Consider the impact of your behaviour on people who live behind or in front of you as well as those to the left and right
• Forewarn your neighbours if you are planning a party and turn the music down if they ask
• Control gatecrashers and consider the health and safety implications of having too many people in your house / flat.
• Respect the fact that you are living amongst residents who live different lifestyles to you.
Facts about misconduct in the community
Misconduct by students in the community will not be tolerated by Derwent Living. It is your responsibility to ensure your behaviour and the behaviour of any invited guests to your home is acceptable. Complaints to Derwent Living will be treated very seriously and will be fully investigated. Opportunity to discuss complaints/reports against individual students or houses/flats will be provided before any decision is made. Not being aware of what is unacceptable behaviour is not an excuse.
Message to residents
- Try not to pre-judge the new tenants. If you have had a bad experience in the past, please try not to let this influence your relationship with the new group.
- Remember that for some students this may be their first time living independently in the private sector.
- If you have problems with noise and would feel comfortable approaching the students, please call round and let them know there is an issue. They may not realise that there is anything wrong. Give them the opportunity to make changes to resolve the situation before you take any other action.
- If you would prefer not to speak to the students please contact your JCR Welfare Rep whom are on hand to offer support and advice..
