Faq at The Canalside
Is there a deposit to pay, is this refundable?
A deposit of £250.00 is payable when you accept an offer of accommodation. This money can be used to offset any amounts you owe us, but otherwise it will be returned to you at the end of the tenancy.
How much is the rent per week?
We charge rent for the whole tenancy period rather than week by week which is payable in 3 installments. However, your rent works out at the equivalent of £89.00 per week for 4,5 and 6 bedroom properties, £99.00 per week for a 2 bedroom and £133.00 for studios; this includes water and electricity bills, but we may charge an energy supplement if your electricity consumption is high.
Where do I collect my keys from?
Keys are collected from The Management Suite. You will need to bring photo Proof of ID for example, driving licence/passport. If you do not have one of these, contact us before arrival to agree a form of Identification.
When can I move in?
You can collect your keys during In Take weekend which is Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September 2012 If you are arriving after this date or out of hours please contact The Canalside Team on 0121 380 3939 or canalside@derwentliving.com to make alternative arrangements.
What is the full postal address for The Canalside?
Depending on what block you live in your address will be either – The Moorings, 60 Lower Loveday Street, Birmingham, B19 3SG or The Lockhouse, 50 Lower Loveday Street, Birmingham, B19 3SJ. Please ensure you also advise sender of your flat number and the room you will occupy.
Will staff accept mail/parcels?
Please contact a member of The Canalside Team for further information. Please do not order parcels for direct delivery to The Canalside Office as these may be returned to sender however, we will try and be as flexible as possible to make sure you receive your mail/parcels without delay.
When is the office open and where is it located?
The Management Suite is located in the main courtyard of The Lockhouse building. Staff are on duty between 8.00am and 6.00pm Monday – Friday. Security are on duty outside of these hours.

Is there on site security and how do we contact them?
The site team provides on site security out of hours. This is Monday – Thursday 6.00pm to 8.00am and Friday 6.00pm – Monday 8.00am. The outof hours Security can be located in The Management Suite or can be contacted by phone or SMS on 07411223843.
What happens if I lock myself out or have an out of hours emergency?
If you lock yourself out do not worry, just contact a member of the on site team and providing you answer a few security questions you will be given access to your property. You can also call, if out of hours our security team on 07411223843 or our Helpdesk on 08432 892329. The same applies to emergency repairs.
How do I report repairs?
You can report repairs by visiting The Management Suite in person, calling 0121 380 3939, e-mailing canalside@derwentliving.com or if it is out of hours on site security on 07411223843 or our Helpdesk on 08432 892329.
Do I get a reduction if I pay my accommodation fees in full?
Yes if you decide to pay your accommodation fees in full you will receive a £175.00 discount.
Does The Canalside have internet access, if so how much?
Yes! We ask you to pay a one-off connection fee of £50.00 but once you have paid to get connected, there are no additional charge for using the internet.
Is there a phone line within the room?
No
Will I need to apply for a TV Licence?
TV licences are provided for communal areas only. If you plan to watch TV in your bedroom you will need a licence. Please visit www.tvlicences.com
Is there car parking on site?
The Canalside are unable to offer car parking on site. There are limited pay and display spaces outside of The Canalside with fees starting from 0.50p per hour which are operated by Birmingham City Council. There is a private carpark opposite The Canalside, Pay and Display operates for both and it is advised to have a valid ticket at all times.
Is the gymnasium free and can anyone use it?
There is an additional cost for the gymnasium of £20.00 per month payable by direct debit and a one off joining fee of £10.00. Yearly discounts will apply for those wanting to pay in advance. The gymnasium is not open to the general public, however, residents of The Canalside can bring along a guest at a cost of £5.00 per session.
Is there a charge for paying by Credit Card?
As confirmed in your Tenancy Agreement and from August 2011 a 1.5% surcharge. This surcharge will be added to all payments made from August 2011.
