A - The University of Birmingham is one stop away on the train; University College Birmingham is a 10 minute walk; Birmingham City University's Conservatoire Campus is 10 minutes' walk away; Aston University and the College of Law are both a 25 minute walk.

A - Broad Street is just 2 minutes' walk away and New Street is a 15 minute walk.

Q - Where is the nearest supermarket?
A - Tesco and Morrison's are 5 minutes' walk away by the 5 Ways Shopping Centre.

Q - Is there a medical centre nearby?
A - Bathrom Medical Practice is a 5 minute walk.

Q - Where is the nearest cashpoint?
A - At the Shell Garage, 1 minute away.

Q - Where is the nearest police station?
A - Ladywood Police Station is a 10 minute walk away.

Q - Where is the nearest post office?
A - In 5 Ways Shopping Centre, just 3 minutes' walk.

Q - What's in my room?
A - Your room is fully furnished with: bed, comfy chair, desk, desk chair, wardrobe and TV.

Q - What is included in the kitchen?
A - Kitchens come equipped with: two or four ring electric hob, full size oven, and small fridge with freezer compartment. You will need to provide your own crockery and cooking utensils. Starter packs are available to pre-order before you arrive - see our homepage.

Q - Who cleans my flat?
A - You are responsible for cleaning your room.

Q - Can I bring a pet?
A - Sorry, pets are not permitted on any Derwent Students properties.

Q - Where can I do my laundry?
A - There is a laundrette near the Common Room.

Q - Can I personalise my room?
A - A large pin board is provided in the bedroom for posters. We ask that you don't put posters on your walls as any damage caused will be chargeable.

Q - Can I have guests to stay?
A - Guests are permitted for a maximum of 2 nights in any week. Please sign them in at reception on arrival.

Q - Can I bring my car?
A - There are no car parking spaces available for residents, so you will have to use the pay and display spaces on the street or find an alternative longer term car park (the Nautical Club has limited spaces available).

Q - Is there anywhere I can store my bike?
A - There is a bike shed on site which is free to use.

Q - Where do I collect my post from?
A - Mail is dropped into individual post boxes in the entrance to the building, but parcels can be collected from our office.

Q - How do I report maintenance issues?
A - You can email, phone or drop a repair request form off in reception. You can also ring the out of hours service number.

Q - Can I change my room?
A - Depending on availability and circumstances room changes can be arranged. A £50 transfer fee will apply.

Q - Do I need to have a TV Licence?
A - You will need to purchase a TV licence if you wish to watch or stream live TV in your flat.

Q - What events do you arrange on the site?
A - We arrange various events throughout the year, including a Christmas Party, Casino Night and Table Tennis Tournament. We welcome suggestions from residents!

Q - What facilities are there on site?
A - A laundrette, bike storage and a common room with sofas, vending machines, and a large TV.

Q - Can I store my possessions in the summer?
A - If you are staying with us for the next academic year we may be able to store non-valuable items.

Q - Can I book for summer?
A - This depends on availability. If we are fully booked, current students can extend their stay for a week, or new residents can arrive a week early.

Q - Can I arrive early?
A - If there are rooms available we can sometimes arrange early arrivals. Additional rent fees will apply - please see the team for more information.

Q - What about safety and security on site?
A - We have CCTV on site, and there is a fob entry system. Only residents and staff have access to the building. Out of hours assistance is available via a dedicated phone line.
