DERWENT STUDENTS IN TANDEM WITH COUNCIL BIKE SCHEME25 July 2014
Derwent Students, which manages student accommodation at Nottingham 1, has shown it’s on the right track after teaming up with Nottingham City Council to install a Citycard Cycles hire stand.
The company, which currently has over 18,000 student units in its portfolio nationwide, is providing students with the stand, where they can hire cycles using their mobile phone and Nottingham Citycard.
All students at Nottingham 1 will be able to use the new Citycard Cycles free of charge for the first half an hour to travel to the main campus at the University of Nottingham or any of the other 22 hire locations throughout the city.
Russ Morton, Citycard Cycles project manager, said: “It’s great to have Derwent Students involved in the scheme and we look forward to seeing residents at Nottingham 1 making good use of the new facility.
“We’re currently working on an app, which will improve the hire experience allowing students to hire a bike easier and quickerusing their smartphone.”
Stephen Dudderidge, director of student operations & support at the University of Nottingham, said: “The integration of a Citycard hub at the hall compliments the Citycard bikes we have on our campuses; and coupled with our student bike hire scheme gives students who come to Nottingham without a bike easy access to cheap and reliable cycling options.”
Micha Fell, sales and marketing manager, Derwent Students, said: “Our ethos has always been to enhance the student experience and the Citycard Cycles scheme means our residents can easily get to and from the main campus and around the city whilst saving money.
“We expect it to be a popular alternative to purchasing a cycle especially for our international students.”
The Citycard Cycle scheme comprises of 12 cycle hubs across the city where bikes can be locked up securely and 23 mobile phone hire location where Citycard Cycles can be picked up and dropped off.
